DS18B20 Digital Temperature Sensor

DS18B20 Digital Temperature Sensor

SKU: SEN-020 - Mfg Part Number: DS18B20

This DS18B20 Digital temperature sensor is a pre-wired version of the standard “1 Wire” temperature sensor. The sensor is encased in a weatherproof housing and should be quite happy in wet or damp conditions and to temperatures of up to 100°C.

These 1-wire digital temperature sensors are fairly precise (±0.5°C over much of the range) and can give up to 12 bits of precision from the onboard digital-to-analog converter. They work great with any microcontroller using a single digital pin, and you can even connect multiple ones to the same pin, each one has a unique 64-bit ID burned in at the factory to differentiate them. Usable with 3.0-5.0V systems.

To use this sensor: Apply power to the Red wire and Ground to the Black wire. These sensors ship with either a yellow or white data line out.

  • Usable temperature range: -55 to 125°C (-67°F to +257°F)
  • Uses 1-Wire interface- requires only one digital pin for communication
  • Multiple sensors can share one pin
  • 9 to 12 bit selectable resolution
  • 1 Wire Temperature Sensor
  • ±0.5°C Accuracy from -10°C to +85°C
  • Query time is less than 750ms
  • Temperature-limit alarm system

Connecting to a Pi … can the cable be extended? If so is there a length limit?

    • :

It can be lengthened – we are not sure what the limit would be. In one instance we had a 3 sensor arrangement on 100′ of plain, uninsulated, multiconductor cable with a sensor at the 0′, 50′, and 100′ – all sensors seemed to operate without issue.
