New Tutorial: Raspberry Pi Irrigation – Part 3

Part three of our Raspberry Pi Irrigation tutorial is now up! In this tutorial we are going to figure out how to write a program that will run our sprinklers, monitor a few of our sensors, and email us once it has finished running. We will also figure out how to schedule this program so it only runs when we want it to – what good would a sprinkler system be if it can’t follow your watering schedule! Interested? Head on over to the tutorial!

New Product Roundup – May 4th

Happy Saturday everyone – we are back with another edition of our New Product Roundup! This week we have 6 new products, exciting news about changes to our Product of the Week promotion and, of course, a reminder that our $2.00 Light Packet shipping is back for the entire month of May!

New to the Catalogue:
Starting off this week, we have two more mid-sized DC gearmotors. These are now available in 60RPM and 620RPM versions. They feature M3 mounting screws and the same output shaft as the 12RPM we released last week. We also added a handy set of trim pots – 100 pieces with 10 different values. Next up we have a new CDS photocell – perfect for light detecting projects and basic light level sensing. Adding to our collection of Dupont connector housings – we now have 5 pin versions available for building custom connectors and cable assemblies. And finally, we have a colorful breadboard friendly button pack. These buttons are momentary with detachable button caps.

New Product Roundup – April 27th

It is Saturday, and time for our weekly New Product Roundup! Just a few new items for this post-Easter short week. We have a flexible solar panel, a new fuse holder, a very slow DC gearmotor, and a new Product of the Week – so let’s go have a look!

New to the Catalogue:
Starting off, we have a new flexible solar panel. This very thin panel is sandwiched between flexible polymers and can be bent and formed to fit curved surfaces. The panels themselves are not terribly large and can be connected to create higher voltages or higher currents. Next up we have a breadboard / perfboard compatible fuse holder for 5 x 20mm glass fuses. The casing is plastic and has a nice cover that snaps closed. Finally, we have a new DC Gearmotor. This motor is slow – just 12RPM at 12VDC. It is ideal for applications where rotational speeds need to be low. Running at a lower voltage (or driving with a motor driver) will achieve even slower rotational speeds.

New Product Roundup – April 20th

Happy Easter everyone! Just a quick reminder: we are closed today for the Easter Holiday but will be open on Monday with normal business hours. With that out of the way – we have 7 new products and a new product of the week to share!

New Products
To start off, we have a new telephone style keypad – these are perfect for projects that require some form of numerical input. We also added a 16 pin dip that is actually just a nice enclosed pack of 8 560 Ohm resistors. Next up, a simple bracket for holding HC-SR04 Ultrasonic sensors. These are clear acrylic and allow the sensor to be easily mounted. Speaking of holding things in place, we have also added a 40 piece set of M2 screws and nuts. Next, we have the SparkFun Pocket AVR Programmer – these are perfect for programming ATMEGA328’s and ATTINY85’s (and many others!). Finally, we have two new cables: A spare AVR programming cable with 6 and 10 pin programming ports and a 3’ USB A to mini-B (also used with the Pocket AVR Programmer).
