The Arduino Zero is here!

The new Arduino Zero Pro is here! This is the newest iteration of Arduino based on the Uno footprint. The board is powered by Atmel’s SAMD21 MCU, which features a 32-bit ARM Cortex® M0+ core. Unlike most Arduino, this one is equipped with a 10 bit analog output pin and 12 bit analog input pins.

One of its most important features of this new Arduino is the Embedded Debugger (EDBG), which provides a full debug interface without the need for additional hardware, significantly increasing the ease-of-use for software debugging. EDBG also supports a virtual COM port that can be used for device programming and traditional Arduino boot loader functionality.

For more information on the Arduino Zero check out its product page!

VIU Engineering Bridge Design Contest – Part II

What a great day – students from the VIU First Year Engineering Program were out presenting their bridge projects today. The goal of the project was to build a prototype bridge that would be a suitable replacement for the Portal Rail Bridge spanning the Hackensack River in Northeastern New Jersey. Many of the students have been visiting us over the past few weeks, picking up different parts for their project, so today it was nice to finally see how they used everything to create their bridges. VIU Engineering Bridge Design Contest

First year engineering students at Vancouver Island University (VIU) are building model bridges with popsicle sticks to test their design skills – and now they want the public to help choose a winner.

Their creative bridge designs will be on display Friday, April 10 in the upper cafeteria (Building 300) at VIU’s Nanaimo campus from 9 am to 2 pm. The public is invited to stop by and celebrate the achievements of these engineering students and provide feedback on how well they met their design objectives.
