New Product Roundup – May 4th

Happy Saturday everyone – we are back with another edition of our New Product Roundup! This week we have 6 new products, exciting news about changes to our Product of the Week promotion and, of course, a reminder that our $2.00 Light Packet shipping is back for the entire month of May!

New to the Catalogue:
Starting off this week, we have two more mid-sized DC gearmotors. These are now available in 60RPM and 620RPM versions. They feature M3 mounting screws and the same output shaft as the 12RPM we released last week. We also added a handy set of trim pots – 100 pieces with 10 different values. Next up we have a new CDS photocell – perfect for light detecting projects and basic light level sensing. Adding to our collection of Dupont connector housings – we now have 5 pin versions available for building custom connectors and cable assemblies. And finally, we have a colorful breadboard friendly button pack. These buttons are momentary with detachable button caps.

Product Of The Week – New Discounts!
Big news today! We have made changes to our Product of the Week – starting today we now offer up to 50% Off on our product of the week. The amount will vary from week to week – Take advantage today with 40% Off on Solder Suckers! This promotion is available in store / online and ends Friday at midnight. A new product and a new discount arrive next Saturday!

12V Geared DC Motor – 60RPM

This high powered gear motor is a 12V DC motor attached to a strong metal gearbox. The gearbox reduces the motor output shaft speed to approximately 60 RPM – perfect for applications where very slow rotation is required! Two M3 mounting holes are tapped into the gearbox housing on the motor face for mounting. Wires can be easily connected using the two solder tabs located on the back.

12V Geared DC Motor – 620RPM

Similar to above, this high powered gear motor is a 12V DC motor attached to a strong metal gearbox. However this gearbox reduces the motor to a modest 620 RPM – perfect for applications where a balance between rotation and strength is required! Two M3 mounting holes are tapped into the gearbox housing on the motor face for mounting. Wires can be easily connected using the two solder tabs located on the back.

Trimpot Potentiometer Kit – 100 pcs

Trimpots are always handy to have around – this 100 piece kit has 10 different values ranging from 500 Ohm to 1M Ohm. The trim pots have a breadboard compatible footprint – making them perfect for prototyping or soldering into perfboards / protoboards.

CDS Photocell

A CDS photocell is a resistor where the resistance changes based on the amount of light. These make great basic light sensors as they are extremely easy to use. As the amount of light increases the resistance of the sensor decreases and vice versa. Resistance ranges from ~500 Ohms in direct sunlight to ~5K Ohms in a lit room, and in excess of 500K Ohms in the dark.

Multicolour Buttons – 5 Pack

This pack of 5 tactile buttons ships with 5 different colored caps (Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, White). The caps snap to the top of the buttons and can be easily removed. These buttons are breadboard compatible and measure 12 x 12 mm. The pins are normally open (disconnected) and when the button is pressed they are closed until the button is released.

5 Pin Dupont Connector

These 5 pin housings fit the standard “Dupont” male and female pins. Simply remove the single pin housings from prebuilt jumper cables or use the compatible crimps to make custom wire harnesses.

New Tutorial!

Raspberry Pi Irrigation Control – Part 2
In part two of this four part tutorial we will boot up the Raspberry Pi, do some initial configuration of the Raspbian operating system, install Python libraries for a few of the sensors, and write some basic Python code to trigger each solenoid and read and display the data from each of the sensors. Interested? Head on over to the tutorial!
