New Product Roundup – April 27th

It is Saturday, and time for our weekly New Product Roundup! Just a few new items for this post-Easter short week. We have a flexible solar panel, a new fuse holder, a very slow DC gearmotor, and a new Product of the Week – so let’s go have a look!

New to the Catalogue:
Starting off, we have a new flexible solar panel. This very thin panel is sandwiched between flexible polymers and can be bent and formed to fit curved surfaces. The panels themselves are not terribly large and can be connected to create higher voltages or higher currents. Next up we have a breadboard / perfboard compatible fuse holder for 5 x 20mm glass fuses. The casing is plastic and has a nice cover that snaps closed. Finally, we have a new DC Gearmotor. This motor is slow – just 12RPM at 12VDC. It is ideal for applications where rotational speeds need to be low. Running at a lower voltage (or driving with a motor driver) will achieve even slower rotational speeds.

Product Of The Week:
Product of the week is the Adafruit HUZZAH ESP8266 Breakout. This handy board features the ESP8266 microcontroller along with all the basic bits needed to support it already in place – 15% Off until Friday at Midnight!

4.8V 0.24W PowerFilm Solar Panel

This PowerFilm Solar Panel is a flexible, lightweight, and paper thin power solution that can be easily integrated with your electronics. The panel is capable of 50mA at 4.8V which equates to about 0.24W of power and is suitable for outdoor use – however we recommend sealing the edges of this panel as it is die cut and moisture will work its way in eventually.

5mm x 20mm Breadboard Fuse Holder

This breadboard / perfboard compatible fuse holder is perfect for protecting your circuit! The holder is designed to be soldered into a circuit board and features a plastic protective case and cover. The holder fits 5 x 20mm diameter fuses and works with all glass fuses we have in stock. It is rated for 250VAC and 6A.

12V Geared DC Motor – 12RPM

This high powered gear motor is a 12V DC motor attached to a strong metal gearbox. The gearbox reduces the motor output shaft speed to approximately 12 RPM – perfect for applications where very slow rotation is required! Two M3 mounting holes are tapped into the gearbox housing on the motor face for mounting. Wires can be easily connected using the two solder tabs located on the back.

New Tutorial!

Raspberry Pi Irrigation Control – Part 2
In part two of this four part tutorial we will boot up the Raspberry Pi, do some initial configuration of the Raspbian operating system, install Python libraries for a few of the sensors, and write some basic Python code to trigger each solenoid and read and display the data from each of the sensors. Interested? Head on over to the tutorial!
