New Product Roundup – March 30th

Time for another weekly New Product Roundup! This week we have five new items in the catalogue to share, a new product of the week, and a brand new tutorial for our Raspberry Pi Irrigation board – so let’s get to it!

New Products
To start, we have added a very basic, and economical, speaker for experimenting with audio outputs and sounds. Next up we have a new 3.5mm (1/8”) TRRS Stereo + Microphone solderable plug for making / repairing audio cables. To complement the plug, we also have a new panel mount TRRS Stereo + microphone jack – this is panel mountable and perfect for enclosures and boxes. Next, we have a set of big, beefy, pliers for not so delicate tasks. Finally, we have a tiny 30mm 5V cooling fan – ideal for our NES and SNES Raspberry Pi cases.

Product Of The Week
Product of the week is a popular one – the Arduino Micro – an Arduino that slots right into a solderless breadboard. 15% Off until Friday at Midnight – so don’t miss out!

New Tutorial
We have a new tutorial up this week: Raspberry Pi Irrigation Control – Part 1 . This tutorial is the first of a four part series which details building an Irrigation Controller with multiple zones, a configurable schedule, configurable run duration, and basic notification system.

Basic Speaker – 8 Ohm 0.5W (without wires)

This inexpensive small speaker is rated at 0.25W and has an impedance of 8 ohms. It is ideal for experimenting with or perfect for projects that need a bare bones speaker! There are two large solder pads on the back where wires can be easily attached.

Audio Plug – Stereo+Mic – 3.5mm

This TRRS 3.5mm Audio Plug (stereo audio + microphone) has a solder contact for each channel and a simple screw on plastic shroud to protect the connections. It is perfect for any project using a standard TRRS headphone jack.

Panel Mount Stereo+Mic Audio Jack – 3.5mm

This TRRS Panel Mount Jack is perfect for your next audio project! TRRS connectors are the audio-style connectors that you see on some phones, MP3 players and development boards. TRRS stands for “Tip, Ring, Ring, Sleeve,” which reflects the fact that, unlike a standard stereo connector, this actually has three conductors and a ground. Some devices use the extra conductor for a microphone (like hands-free headsets) or to carry a video signal (like in some MP3/MP4 players). This panel mount connector makes it easy to mount an external audio jack on your project. The jack needs ~7mm diameter hole and the back of the connector has four easily solderable connectors.

Long Nose Pliers – 6.5″

These large pliers measure 6.5” long and feature grippy rubber handles. The jaws of the pliers are quite long for their size – ideal for getting into tight places when smaller pliers won’t do!

5V Brushless DC Cooling Fan – 30mm

This tiny fan moves quite a bit of air for its size! The ability for air to cool an object is directly dependent of the air itself – so being able to move fresh cool air in to an enclosure or over a high heat component like a regulator, motor driver, or processor can make a big difference in its performance and longevity.

The fan measures 30 x 30mm and just 10mm thick. It operates on 5VDC and features a JST-XH connector on the end. These work well with our NES and SNES Raspberry Pi cases and clip right in to the holder inside. Each fan also includes 4 x M3 machine screws and 4 nuts for mounting in other applications.
