New Product Roundup – September 9th to September 15th

We are back with another edition of our New Product Roundup. It is hard to believe we are already half way through September! This week we have added four new products to the shop: Another new motor driver breakout from Adafruit based on the TB6612 chipset, a blue version of our 805 Prewired LED, a new Tamiya gearbox (ideal for mobile robots), and a new limit switch. Our product of the week is the SparkFun Beginners Parts Kit – a great assortment of parts in a convenient storage case.

Lets jump in and have a closer look at each!

Adafruit TB6612 1.2A DC/Stepper Motor Driver Breakout

This tiny breakout board for the TB6612 dual H-bridge by Adafruit Industries can spin two DC motors (bi-directional), step one bi-polar or uni-polar stepper motor, or fire off two solenoids with 1.2A per channel. These are the same motor drivers used by the Adafruit Motor Shield and the Adafruit Motor HAT and are easy to work with. As will all Adafruit breakouts there is a handy tutorial and example code provided!

Pre-Wired 0805 SMD LED

These tiny 0805 surface mount LEDs are pre-wired with two very fine wires – meaning these can be easily fit into any model or project. These are fairly bright and available in a variety of colors.

Tamiya 70097 Twin-Motor Gearbox Kit

The Tamiya twin-motor gearbox is a small (3-inch long) plastic gearbox. It contains two small brushed DC motors that drive separate 3mm hexagonal output shafts. There are two ways to put the kit together: with a high-speed 58:1 gear ratio or with a slower 203:1 gear ratio. Either way, the motors provide plenty of power to drive any small robot.

Small Lever Limit Switch – Omron SS-5GL

Limit switches can be used in a variety of different applications; from an end stop on a CNC machine to an impact detector on a small roaming robot, they are very versatile. This limit switch works like any other momentary switch and provide both the normally open and normally closed contacts.
