New Product Roundup – September 2nd to September 8th

Hi everybody, thanks for stopping by for another edition of our Saturday New Product Roundup. This week we have four new products to showcase and, as always, a new product of the week! So what’s new? Well, we have a new version of the Mean Well 12V 12.5A switching power supply, a new 820uF capacitor, a new DC/Stepper motor driver breakout from Adafruit based on the DRV8833, and finally, Adafruit’s RFM69HCW medium range radio transceiver breakout board. Product of the week is our 34 piece Assorted Plastic Gear Set – 15% Off until Friday at Midnight! Lets go have a quick look at each!

820uF 25V Capacitor

Electrolytic capacitors are really handy to have laying around. Typically these are used for surge suppressing / transient voltages / filtering out noise at the ~1KHz or less. This specific capacitor is rated for 820uF and 25V with a +/- 20% tolerance. These capacitors are polarized and should not be hooked up backwards. The negative is denoted by a gold line down the side of the capacitor with a negative symbol.

Mean Well Switching Power Supply – 12VDC, 12.5A

This powerful 12V switching power supply from Mean Well is a replacement for the Mean Well NES-150-12 12.5A / 150W power supply we carried before. The LRS-150-12 does not accept 248-373VDC input like the previously carried model, but it does come in at a lower price and a much smaller form factor. The supply is capable of up to 12.5A output at 12VDC from a variety of common AC input ranges. The supply features a durable metal casing, short circuit protection, overload protection, and overvoltage protection.

Adafruit DRV8833 DC/Stepper Motor Driver Breakout Board

The DRV8833 is a popular motor controller chipset. It features two full H-bridges and can handle motor voltages ranging between 2.7V and 10.8V and sustained current of up to 1.2A per channel (although the current limit has been set to 1A). The current limiting function can be disabled or changed as needed. The chip can handle very short periods of time at 2A when the limit is disabled.

Adafruit RFM69HCW Transceiver Radio Breakout

The RFM69HCW radio transceiver is a simple data transmission radio, perfect for use with the Arduino and other microcontrollers or microcomputers. The low frequency is ideal for longer range, lower speed, data transmission. You won’t exactly be streaming video, but for collecting data from sensors, these are an excellent choice. Unlike Bluetooth or WiFi there is no pairing, scanning, or anything to worry about with connections. Just send data whenever you like and all other modules within range tuned to the same frequency (and with the same encryption key) will receive – simple as that! The transceivers handle all packetization, error correction and can also auto-retransmit.
