New Product Roundup – August 12th to August 18th

We are back with another edition of our New Product Roundup! This week we have several new products and, as always, a new product of the week. New to the site in the past week: we now have Xcelite Flush Cutters – a high quality set of cutters for cleaning up through hole component leads, cutting thin wire, and zip-ties. Also in the tool section, we have a simple IC Puller – these are used to remove DIPs up to 28 pins long from their sockets. Finally, we have a metal LED holder for 3mm for all standard 3mm LEDs.

If you are living in Western Canada and wondering just how bad the air quality in your area is, our product of the week might be of interest. This week we have the SparkFun Particle Sensor Breakout – a sensor that can be used for detecting airborne particulate and smoke. It is 15% Off until Friday at midnight!

Let’s go take a closer look at each of the new products:

Xcelite Flush Cutters

Flush cutters are one of the most important tools to have around your work bench! Xcelite 170M Flush Cutters are some of the nicest out there – they give you the ability to trim leads cleanly (and close to a solder joint), trim wire, and other thin (soft) metals and plastics. These cutters are ESD safe and measure 5″ / 127mm in length.

IC Extractor

Pulling chips from IC sockets can be a difficult – especially with the larger ones. The little hooks on each end of this IC extractor tool grab the chip and allow you to pop it out vertically – this should help prevent bent pins.

3mm LED Holder – Metal

These chromed metal LED holders are used to panel mount LEDs. They are ideal for making a control or indicator panel and add a finished look to your project. These 3 part connectors have a plastic base that holds the LED (and keeps the leads separated), a metal nut, and a metal holder / bezel. These should work in materials up to 4mm thick, simply drill a hole!
