New Product Roundup – July 1st to July 7th

After a week off, we are back with another edition of our New Product Roundup! It was a bit of a short week but we managed to squeeze in three new products and an updated version of a catalogue veteran. In the Audio section we have added a new speaker and an internally driven buzzer. We also have a new shaft coupler / adapter for 3mm to 5mm transitions. Our magnetic door sensor has also been updated, and now carries a lower price. Let’s go have a closer look at each!

Thin Speaker – 8 Ohm 0.25W

This small speaker is a low cost alternative that can get some sound out of a project without breaking the bank. The speaker measures 40mm in diameter and a little over 4mm thick; it is rated at 0.25W and has an 8 ohm impedance.

5V Active Buzzer

Unlike many buzzers, this “active” buzzer has its own internal tone generator – meaning there is no complicated microcontroller or external electronics required to make noise! Simply apply ~5VDC to this buzzer on the positive leg, and ground the negative leg, and it will buzz. The tone is continuous as long as power is applied. If you wish to control this with an Arduino or other microcontroller, we recommend using a transistor as it draws up to 25mA (more than a pin on the Arduino can handle)

Aluminum Flex Shaft Coupler – 3mm to 5mm

Need to connect two shafts together? This flex coupler has a helical cut that allows two shafts that are not perfectly aligned to be joined together while reducing binding. These are a little springy in the X, Y, and Z axis but not in the rotational axis meaning they will not cause additional backlash.

Magnetic Door Switch

This simple door switch is based on a magnet and a reed switch. The magnet and the reed switch are both encased in ABS plastic with handy mounting holes. These sensors are commonly seen in consumer alarm systems and make an ideal addition to any Arduino or Raspberry Pi based alarm system.
