New Product Roundup – January 21st to January 27th

Hard to believe, but it is already the last Saturday of January! This week we have just a couple new products to showcase – a new Common Cathode RGB LED and the incredibly popular Adafruit Circuit Playground Express Educator’s Pack. We also have another new workshop available for registration – the Raspberry Pi Camera Workshop Part 1 – scheduled for February 17. Lets go have a closer look!

5mm RGB LED – Common Cathode (Transparent)

These RGB (Red, Green, Blue) LEDs are quite fun to use. Since they have individual Red, Green, and Blue LEDs built in to one housing they can be mixed using a PWM signal to form just about any color. This specific model is a Common Cathode LED meaning all 3 channels receive power from a separate source and their grounds are tied together internally.

Raspberry Pi Camera Workshop Part 1 – February 17

This workshop will show you how to assemble a Pi camera with an optional powered tilt and swivel mount and get it running with software that you can use to make a security camera, a wildlife camera, a video doorbell, a time-lapse camera, a party photobooth or *insert your own wild idea here*.

Circuit Playground Express Educator’s Pack

Circuit Playground Express is the next step towards a perfect introduction to electronics and programming. Adafruit has taken the original Circuit Playground Classic and made it even better! Not only did they pack even more sensors in, they also made it even easier to program. You can now start your journey with Microsoft MakeCode block-based or Javascript programming. Then, you can use the same board to try CircuitPython, with the Python interpreter running right on the Express. As you progress, you can advance to using Arduino IDE, which has full support of all the hardware down to the low level, so you can make powerful projects.
