New Product Roundup – November 19th to December 2nd
We are back with a bigger than normal new product update – two weeks worth of new stuff – and there are a few really good ones! Last weekend was our Black Friday Sale, and far to busy to fit this post in, so instead we decided to double it up this week. So what is new? We have the new AIY kits from Google (a perfect Christmas Gift for the Pi enthusiast in your life), electronic components, a new type of slip ring, and a new IR Remote Control Kit from SparkFun. Lets dive in and have a closer look!
SparkFun IR Control KitHave you ever needed a cheap way to activate something from across the room? Infrared remotes are still the cheapest way to wirelessly control a device. This kit includes an infrared remote control, a couple infrared receivers, some resistors, and even some IR LEDs. Using this kit, you can control your Arduino with the included remote control, or use the receiver and LEDs to communicate from one board to another. You can even use your own remote control, or use the kit to control your TV or stereo!

Slip Ring – 3 Wire (10A)A slip ring is remarkably simple electromechanical assembly that allows electronic signals to be passed through its rotating innards. These can be commonly found in wind turbines, radar antennae, or anything else that requires continuous 360° rotation while maintaining an electrical connection. This particular slip ring has 3 large conductors and can handle up to 10A per channel.

Piezo ElementA Piezo element comes in handy when you need to detect vibration or a knock. This sensor measures 20mm in diameter and just 0.42mm thick. You can use these for tap or knock sensors pretty easily by reading the voltage on the output. These elements can also be used for a very small audio transducer such as a buzzer.

10 Pin Dupont ConnectorOur 3” x 40 wire and 6” x 40 prototyping wires are really useful – but sometimes a bunch of individual pins can be a bit annoying to keep in the right order. We now have a solution! These 10 pin housings fit the standard “Dupont” male and female pins. Simply remove the single pin housings and slide them into this larger connector.

Google AIY Voice Kit for Raspberry PiThe Google AIY Voice Kit for Raspberry Pi is an excellent – no soldering required – kit that allows you to built your very own Google AIY Voice Bot! When completed, this voice command bot will give directions, send a hands free email, check the weather, and whatever else you might ask it. The kit includes The Voice HAT, the microphone board, plastic standoffs, 3” speaker with wires attached, the cardboard internal and external frame, arcade pushbutton, and pre-terminated cables.
