New Product Roundup – May 21 to May 27th

Happy Saturday – Just a quick reminder that our showroom is closed today (Saturday) before we jump into this week’s New Product Roundup. We will resume normal Saturday hours again starting next week.

Now, down to business! This week we have a very exciting new addition to our product lineup: The BBC micro:bit, a breadboard adapter for the micro:bit, a mini microphone for the Raspberry Pi, and a portable backup battery from SparkFun. Let’s have a better look:

BBC micro:bit

We are excited to finally have the BBC micro:bit in Canada – it has been anticipated for quite some time! For those unfamiliar, the BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer designed for beginners in electronics and coding. The micro:bit makes getting into these often daunting fields as easy as possible. Programming the micro:bit can be done by computer or by their intuitive app available for Android and iOS devices. Code can be designed using a drag and drop interface in the Blocks editor, Javascript, or Python.

SparkFun micro:bit Breakout (with Headers)

To take full advantage of the micro:bit’s 21 GPIO pins, a breadboard adapter will come in quite handy! This connector converts the PCB edge connector to a breadboard compatible header. This is the assembled version of this product and does not require soldering.

Mini USB Microphone

This mini USB microphone is designed to work with Windows / Mac / Linux systems and is an especially great accessory for the Raspberry Pi. The microphone itself is tiny – it barely sticks out from the USB socket. To get started with this microphone, simply plug it in and start recording!

Lithium Ion Battery Pack – 2.2Ah (USB)

These portable, rechargeable lithium ion battery packs are simple, compact and make for a great way to power your widgets in the field. Best of all, they’re dead simple to operate: just connect your device to the USB-A port on the battery pack and press the power button. A 7-segment LED will alert you to the charge level of the battery and start powering your device. To recharge the battery pack, just plug it into your computer or phone charger using the included USB micro-B cable.
