New Product Roundup – December 4th to December 10th

Hello, and welcome back to another Weekly Product Roundup! We are starting to get very close to our first series of domestic shipping cutoffs for the holidays – if you are still looking for something for under the tree and like free shipping – now is the time to act! This week we continued our theme of LEDs with a series of extremely small prewired LEDs. We also have a great new intro to programing / electronics kit from Sparkfun and a low cost real time clock from Adafruit. Let’s have a closer look!

Pre-Wired 1206 SMD LED

We saw these tiny LEDs and thought they would be great for any hobbyist, be it for Model Trains, Cars, Planes, Ships, Rockets, or whatever! The “1206” version of these pre-wired LEDs are ideal for use where a conventional 3mm LED or “grain-of-wheat” bulb will just not work. The LED measures 1.5 x 3.0mm and has incredibly fine 18cm long wires – making installation in a tight space a lot easier! The 1206 LEDs are available in White, Warm White, Green, and Red.

Pre-Wired 0806 SMD LED

If the “1206” version of these pre-wired LEDs seems too big, we also have an “805” version. The 805 measures 1.2mm x 2.0mm and features the same ultra-fine 18cm wires. The 805 LEDs are available in White, Warm White, Green, and Red.

Pre-Wired 0603 SMD LED

If the “805” version of these pre-wired LEDs is still too big, we also have a “603” version. The 603 measures 0.8mm x 1.6mm and features the same ultra-fine 18cm wires. The 603 LEDs are available in White, Warm White, Green, and Red.

Pre-Wired 0402 SMD LED

And if for some reason the “603” version of these pre-wired LEDs is too big, we also have a “402” version. The 402 measures just 0.5mm x 1.0mm and should fit just about anywhere you can get the ultra fine wires to. The 402 LEDs are available in White, Warm White, Green, and Red.

Rocker Switch – Small 6A 125V

We thought this tiny ON/OFF rocker switch would come in handy for a lot of projects. It measures a mere 15mm x 10mm and only requires a depth of 15mm.

SparkFun Digital Sandbox

The SparkFun Digital Sandbox kit is a great way to experiment with sensors and other electronics without the need to build the circuits on a breadboard. The Sandbox board can be programmed using the conventional Arduino software or ArduBlock. ArduBlock is a simple, graphical version of the popular Arduino language – you will be able to program all the experiments with a simple graphical interface instead of writing code.

Adafruit PCF8523 RTC

The PCF8523 is a simple, low cost, real time clock (RTC) chip. It doesn’t have some of the features of its more expensive RTCs on the market but it will keep time to within a couple seconds a day. This easy to use Adafruit breakout board adds a battery backup and makes getting this little board integrated into your project as easy as possible.
