Raspberry Pi Model A+

The Raspberry Pi Model A+ Is here! The Raspberry Pi foundation has managed to find a way to make this wonderful single board computer even smaller and even cheaper. This lightweight Raspberry Pi has a single USB port, no Ethernet Jack, and is significantly smaller. Despite these changes, the Model A+ is still compatible with all your favourite Raspberry Pi operating systems. With the release of the Raspberry Pi 2B so close to the release of the Raspberry Pi B+ there has been a lot of questions regarding the release of a new version of the A – this will not be the case this year.

What has changed?

  • The GPIO header has grown to 40 pins, while retaining the same pinout for the first 26 pins as the Model A.
  • Better hotplug and overcurrent behaviour.
  • Micro SD. The old friction-fit SD card socket has been replaced with a much nicer push-push micro SD version.
  • Lower power consumption. By replacing linear regulators with switching ones
  • Better audio. The audio circuit incorporates a dedicated low-noise power supply.
  • Neater form factor. We’ve aligned the USB connector with the board edge, moved composite video onto the 3.5mm jack, and added four squarely-placed mounting holes.
  • What Is the Raspberry Pi?

The Raspberry Pi is a single board computer roughly the size of a credit card developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation in the UK. The Pi was designed to promote basic computer science in schools and has grown to become so much more. It can act like a desktop computer, using a standard keyboard, mouse and monitor allowing you to browse the internet and learn to code; It can work as a media center connected to your TV, playing 1080P movies; It can act as a stand alone device much like an Arduino whirring away in the background running your next cool robot… The possibilities are endless!

    • 700 MHz ARM Processor
    • 256MB RAM
    • 1 x USB Port
    • 1 x HDMI 1.3/1.4
    • 1 x 3.5mm Audio/Composite Video Jack
    • 40 × GPIO pins including UART, I²C bus, SPI bus
    • 5VDC via Mini USB or GPIO pins
    • 65mm × 54mm (~2.5 in × ~2.2 in)
