Adafruit PCF8523 RTC Assembled Breakout Board
This is a simple little real time clock (RTC) breakout board based on the PCF8523 chipset. The breakout allows your microcontroller project to keep track of time even if it is reprogrammed, or if the power is lost. It is perfect for datalogging, clock-building, time stamping, timers and alarms, etc.
The PCF8523 is a simple, low cost, real time clock (RTC) chip. Unlike the fancier (and much more expensive) RTCs out there, this chip is not temperature compensated and may lose or gain up to 2 seconds a day. If you need a more accurate RTC we do recommend looking at the DS3231 instead.
The battery backup uses a CR1220 battery – these are not included but are available here.
