Raspberry Pi Zero W

Well, it is that time of year again; the time when the Raspberry Pi Foundation celebrates its birthday… and typically releases some new goodie along with it! This year it is not a new flagship Raspberry Pi – instead it is another new revision of the Raspberry Pi Zero. We have always thought the Pi Zero would be so much better with some form of connectivity on it – it seems the Pi Foundation agreed! The Pi Foundation has taken the existing Raspberry Pi 1.3 and added 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN and Bluetooth (BLE / 4.1). These new features make the Pi Zero a much stronger IoT (Internet of Things) device and free up that single USB port for other uses.

In addition to the Zero, the Pi Foundation has also released an official case for the Pi Zero. This case ships with three lids and also includes a mini camera adapter cable.

Looking to get your hands on a Raspberry Pi Zero W? Well the good news is that production will be considerably higher than the Zero 1.3 . The Pi Foundation will be building 25K units per week – so hopefully in the not to distant future these will be available in quantities greater that 1. For those not needing the connectivity, the Raspberry Pi Zero 1.3 will continue to be produced alongside the Pi Zero W for the foreseeable future.
